John Held Jr.

American painter and illustrator
American, (1889–1958)
Held was one of the illustrators for "The New Yorker" magazine during the 1920s, known for his comic and idiosyncratic representations of the Flapper generation. Unwisely investing in a swindle, the Stock Market Crash of 1929 left him penniless, and in 1931 he suffered a nervous breakdown. In 1939, he had a successful exhibition of bronze equestrian statutes.
